Besides which the other two best movies this year have been sequels to movie franchises from the 70s. That means Star Wars has a chance to be just as good.

I was talking with Shiloh about Star Wars on Thanksgiving. He's convinced Finn is Lando's son.
That would be cool I guess.

Trailers before Force Awakens (rumor): Captain America: Civil War (the trailer already online) Batman vs. Superman (the trailer being shown tonight) X-men: Apocalypse Nice Guys BFG And then these spoiler trailers: Star Wars: Rogue One JJ Abram's new movie (probably the Portal movie)
big surprise its mostly capeshit although I hope the spoiler trailers and the Nice Guys rumors are true so I can get some trailers for some actual good movies before this shit

I'm glad that, even though Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac totally sold out to be in this movie, they still have cool looking indie films coming out in the future.

The candidates for the Young Han Solo movie are predictably terrible. The fucking kid from the Walking Dead? Seriously? Fuck off.

First 30 minutes: Start off with Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) doing recon on the desert alien planet Jakku trying to get information about the First Order. He stores information in a robot, the robot BB-8. He fights flametroopers and kills some of them but he gets captured by Captain Phasma (Gwendolyne Christie), and FN-2187 (John Boyega). Phasma orders the flametroopers to burn the village and FN-2187 becomes concerned.
They take Poe back to the Star Destroyer where General Hux (Domnhall Gleeson) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) are waiting for him. Ren looks badass. He tortures Poe using darkside methods and talks to his Vader helmet that he has in his room. Hux also mentions Ren receiving orders from Snoke (Andy Serkis).
Cut back to Jakku. BB-8 is found by Rey (Daisy Ridley) who hangs out in the ruins of old star destroyers and AT-ATs. She asks BB-8 what he's doing out there and he says its classified. She says her mission is classified too and that she's waiting for her "family". She collects old relics and pieces from the ruins of the old intergalactic battle.
Back to the Star Destroyer. FN-2187 confronts Kylo Ren, and Ren chokes out his friend in response. FN-2187 freaks out and frees Poe. They escape the Star Destroyer in a tie fighter but FN-2187 says he doesn't know how to drive. Poe says "I've always wanted to drive one of these". They escape, barely, and their tie fighter crash lands on Jakku. Hux tells Phasma to send troops after them.
Poe dies in the crash, and FN-2187 is the only survior. Poe tells FN-2187 to find BB-8 and that he's a resistance fighter now. FN-2187 takes Poe's jacket and decides to become a resistance fighter, dropping his stormtrooper identity. He is now Finn.
Finn meets Rey who tries to kill him, but they both eventually team up when stormtroopers come hot on their tail. Finn says they need to escape the planet. Rey says she knows a driver but his ship is a piece of trash--a real garbage heap. Finn says he'll take what he can get. It's the Millenium Falcon.

That description is kind of hilarious. Especially if that major character death is true.

I've seen it.
Not the best Star Wars and definitely not the best movie of the year like Charles is insisting. There were too many good movies this year and more are still being released. That being said it is a good movie and I don't mind the fact that I'm seeing it 3 times so much.

So there are a bunch of cameos going on in the background of this movie. Simon Pegg is the alien Rey sells her shit to at the beginning on Jakku. Daniel Craig is the stormtrooper Rey uses the force on. If you look in the background of the resistance alliance meeting, you can see Kevin Smith as one of the generals. The two stormtroopers who get concerned by Kylo Ren are musicians Michael Giacchino and Beck.
I also liked seeing Mad Dog and Rama as the space pirates. Those guys did a fucking great job with the fight scenes in this movie. I think I liked the parts where Finn used the lightsabre the best, and when Chewbacca went ham on the dudes.
