The opening of Spectre was pretty good even for a bond movie, but it made me think about the greatest openings to a movie that really set the tone for the rest of the film. Obviously this is the best:

The early tarantino, pre-Jackie Brown films all had great openings. He tried to recreate that in Inglorious Basterds but it wasn't really the same. The Pulp Fiction opening is up there as one of the best ever. Star Wars Episode IV opening is also obviously really good but none of the other Star Wars come close and they all have tried to copy it. The Fellowship of The Ring intro with Galadriel talking is pretty good too.
But Lion King is where its at.
As far as obscure movies with great opening go, I'll get there.
