One of my earliest film memories is watching the Matrix for the first time on VHS.
My classmates had gone on and on about how it was better than Star Wars and I was like "no way no movie is better than Star Wars" cause this is how I thought when I was a kid.
So the movie starts with the vague opening and the kickass woman and I get more and more into the movie, especially after it is revealed what the Matrix is and how powerful the agents are and I'm like Neo is the coolest and then I remember this scene is the most pumped I ever got for a movie when I was a kid:
Too bad the sequels sucked. The closest they ever got to this scene was the final agent smith/neo fight in the rain but that got too ridiculous.

I think another reason the first matrix is so good is that even though it was just an appeal to everyone at the time blockbuster, it was also a commentary on information exchange in the late 90s and the growing state of technology at the time. The sequels kind of abandoned that and became too focused on pseudo-philosophy, biblical references and greek mythology.
