What are your most anticipated movies for this year? Here's my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2014.
10. How to Catch a Monster - This is the first movie written and directed by Ryan Gosling. It stars Christina Hendricks, Matt Smith, Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan, Ben Mendelsohn and Ian De Caistecker. It tells the story of a young boy who uncovers a secret underwater town guarded by a monster.
9. Dumb and Dumber To - Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are back as Harry and Lloyd in the long-awaited official sequel to the dumbest movie of all time.
8. Gone Girl - David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven, The Social Network) directs this film based on the best selling novel. Ben Affleck stars as a husband who loses his wife, and may be partially responsible for her disappearance.
7. Boyhood - This film shot in real time tells the story of a young boy becoming an adult over twelve years. Started in 2002, Richard Linklater (the Before trilogy) presents this film that many are already calling another indie masterpiece.
6. Guardians of the Galaxy - Batista, Chris Pratt, green Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper as a talking raccoon and Vin Diesel as a talking tree. These are just the main characters in writer/director James Gunn's (PG PORN) Marvel movie. This movie will be batshit, which is the main selling point really
5. Interstellar - BRAHM. Chris Nolan is back with this scifi picture in which Matthew McConaughey stars as a scientist who discovers a wormhole. Also starring Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, Ellen Burstyn, David Oyelowo and of course Michael Caine.
4. They Came Together - Finally, the makers of one of Wet Hot American Summer have reunited. This send-up of the romantic comedy genre reunites Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni and Michael Ian Black in another under the radar, low budget, completely stupid movie. Joining the cast is Max Greenfield, Cobie Smulders and Michael Shannon. And if you don't like that, you taste like a burger and I don't like you anymore.
3. The Raid 2: Berandal - Ramas returns to get sent to a prison. The director said that his original idea for the Raid was this movie, but that they did not have the budget to do so.
2. Godzilla - Directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), Godzilla is the one major blockbuster release in 2014 that I think has the most overall promise. Most of that has to do with its cast, which includes Bryan Cranston, Juliet Binoche, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Sally Hawkins, and Ken Wantanabe.
1. Inherent Vice - The first Thomas Pynchon novel ever to be made into a movie, this film written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood) was made under supervision from Pynchon who served as a producer. It stars Joaquin Phoenix as Doc Sportello, a stoner detective in the 60s who uncovers a massive Californian conspiracy when he takes a case offered to him by his ex-girlfriend (Sasha Pietrese). Also starring Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Maya Rudolph, Michael K. Williams, Katherine Waterston, Martin Donovan and Martin Short.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Zero Theorem, Frank, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Need for Speed, Serena, Veronica Mars, Transendence, the Lego Movie, Cooties, Hellion, Dear White People, God's Pocket, Wish I was Here, Life After Beth, Grand Budapest Hotel, Noah, Kumiko the treasure Hunter, Let's Be Cops, The Giver, Suite Francaise, Chef, Knight of Cups, I Origins, Infinitely Polar Bear, The Judge, Camp X-ray
