1960 through 1977. At this point in time movies actually mattered.
I chose 1960 because this is when Hitchcock released Psycho, which would start his last string of good movies, and it's also when the New Wave started in France with Breathless. It's also when Fellini released La Dolce Vita and Kubrick started to get studio backing with Spartacus. I chose 77 because with the release of Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind it signified a change in beliefs and the beginning of the blockbuster era. Sure there are still some classics released after 77 (Apocalypse Now came out in 79) but I still think 77 is the benchmark where it turns into casual crap. There are also classics before 60, but a lot of the films before 60 seem too old hollywood for my taste. Between 60 and 77 you have directors in both Hollywood and abroad finally taking advantage of the medium and making classics.
Therefore 60-77 is the golden age of cinema and when all the best movies were made.
